Recently a friend asked me 'why cleanse?' She was interested in trying a juice cleanse and wanted reputable sources for tips / tricks / recipes / guides as there are so many different diets, trends and perspectives on cleansing.
She prompted me to then ask myself the very same question, why cleanse?
This is the most important question to answer for before beginning any cleanse. What are your motives behind the cleanse...are you doing it for intestinal health, for your skin, for spiritual connection or to loose weight?
Of course, there are endless reasons to cleanse, and just as many ways to cleanse, so answering the first question can lead you to your most appropriate and health cleanse plan.
Here is one of the most important things to keep in mind during any clease:
No matter your reason for cleansing, juicing gets emotional!
It’s called comfort food for a reason, we are comforted by the action of consuming. When introducing our bodies to a liquid cleanse (water or juice), a clean food cleanse (raw or whole foods), or even a mental cleanse (kicking TV, radio etc.) we detox. With that detox comes big emotional release. Maintaining this simple awareness as you begin a cleanse is HUGE and will help you maintain and complete the cleanse.
Here's how to maintain this awareness:
Make a list of all the positive things that will come from your personal cleanse (more energy, better sleep, strong digestive system) and keep it as a little inspiration on your refrigerator, bathroom mirror or bed table. This will be a simple reminder each time you feel like you can't continue. Let go of judgement and cultivate compassion when the cleanse gets tough and remember the positive outcomes.
Find your healthy cleanse plan from start to finish - figure out why you are feeling drawn towards cleansing, to find the perfect fit. Look for resources and personal teachers/holistic practioners/nutrtionist who will ensure you are given a well balanced experience.
