The practice of yoga reveals the path of the heart.
Time and time again, I discover the richness of this journey we call yoga: it is one in which we cultivate our best qualities, transform our shortcomings, and reveal the sacred flame at the center of all things. In the end, we find ourselves to be fire keeperstending the sacred flame of our own hearts, so that we may live a life filled with love, steeped in intuition, and built on truth and joy.
As Firekeepers, we make-under ourselves, to reveal more of who we are. We uncover and unmask, unravel and unseat. We dig up and cherish. We root down, and venture out. We sink our teeth into our wanderlust, and come home to our tribe. We nurture and thrive. We build and evolve. As our practice deepens, so does our understanding of who we are. This practice allows us to live more radiantly, and with deep roots.
Our spirits can be likened to a flame in the heart: when fed properly, the flame is bright, and clear— sometimes roaring, sometimes an intense fire of desire. This practice uncovers our spirit— and like a sacred fire— it transforms and transmutes. We become the offering.
Like our practice, the flame of the heart is a space in which we can offer up our dedication, our benefit, our obstacles, our confusion— and through the flame of transformation, be transformed and made new. In the end, we have sacred ash, vibhuti, the rich gift of the practice from which the phoenix rises, and our path illuminates.
Together we tend the flame, and come back to our mats time and time again to reconnect to the inner fire of consciousness. Through practice, and through tending our own hearts, we uncover the joy and peace that carries us though the roughest moments. We become resilient, flexible, steady and bright. Next time you find yourself on your mat or cushion, perhaps take a moment to honor this part of your self that is a Firekeeper: the one who shows up fully. Heart full, open, ready.
