Tapping into your Stillness

That moment between sleep & just waking up.

Rain dropping on a tin roof.

The river running across your feet.

The cold rush of fresh air passing through your lungs in the morning.

The smell of coffee filling the air, while you quietly spread butter on toast in the morning.

The stillness that exists in all of us.

How you start your day is crucial to remaining connected to your inner stillness. In our natural state we are quiet, still & connected to nature. It is who we are, that's why we sleep or find ways to shut our mind off. We long to be outside—connected to our surroundings.

The yogi tradition is to set the body in motion through a series of poses & postures that will allow us to get out of our minds—eradicate the ego—and achieve stillness. A feeling of calm connection to our inner guides.

This is why Savasana is such an important asana (pose). It is why we do yoga—to achieve Savanasa. For some, it takes years to master this pose (on your back, arms to your side, palms facing up, body completely relaxed and still). Empty mind, open heart.

It is easy to remain in our head, thinking up irrational stories about others, living in a past moment, or dreaming about the future. Not realizing what is actually happening in the moment.

All is calm, quiet, free—steady, still & safe.

When we achieve this state, we are in our highest state of truth & love. Because everything we look for in the busyness of the world, exists and comes from within. When you realize that, you will commence a spiritual awakening.

Simple exercise to achieve a sense of stillness.

Try sitting quietly alone, (feet up the wall if you wish—to slow the heart rate). Listen to your heart beat. Place the tip of your tongue to the ceiling of your mouth up by your front teeth. Breathe in for 8 counts, out for 8 counts. Slow and steady. Then, with your mouth closed, 'Om' three times. Feel the hymn and vibration in the frontal brain. Now be still for as long as you wish.

If you practice this every evening before you go to bed for any amount of time, you will achieve an inner peace & as an added bonus, you'll fall asleep much faster. This is the beginning to your meditation exploration.
